hello to all who are still checking in!
dad is stable, still in the long term acute care hospital, in plano. don't let the website fool you, it is a dismal place and dad is working hard on his therapy so that he can be transferred to the inpatient rehab hospital. we have pretty much decided will be reliant, also in plano. he has to be able to tolerate three hours of therapy a day to meet criteria. he is using up his hospital days and we are, quite frankly, a little worried that if he doesn't meet those criteria soon, the only option (other than taking him home, which will really reverse the progress he has made) will be a nursing home, which we all agree is completely and totally out of the question. OUT OF THE QUESTION.
so here is what we need from you...call, visit, send cards, whatever...but please help us encourage him to PUSH through the pain, which of course is considerable, so that he can move along in his therapy and be able to go to rehab soon. i really do think it is possible, his progress has been tremendous, considering that six weeks ago we weren't even sure he was going to make it. he sits in up in a wheelchair for several hours a day, he is even "standing", that is, assisted by the parallel bars and the physical therapists, but still, standing upright for 5-10 seconds at a time. this helps his breathing and his intestinal ileus so much! so, cheer him on in any way you can.
thanks for hanging in there with us.
namaste.

In my chat with him tonight he sounded good, complained about the routine but sure appreciated the food Carmie delivers to him daily.
ReplyDeleteChuck. All your old WTAE pals are wishing you the best. We're following your progress and hoping for your recovery to continue. Mark Roberts.
ReplyDeleteTalked to Chuck last night. He sounded great and very positive. Told me his goal is to be back on the radio in a month. I stressed that he needed to work through all the pain. Said he might be transferred today. The cooking is not as good as Carmie, but she brings some of hers in to cheer him. Good to hear him sound like himself again. Hang in there. I know it is hard for the family with your loved one in a facility for so long. Just went through it myself recently so I understand. Love to all. Cathy (Lyons) Schrecengost.

ReplyDeletePlease know you are in my prayers for your recovery, and to persevere in physical therapy. From the messages posted it is evident that you’re surrounded by a loving family, friends and caring health care professionals. Please continue to keep your spirits high. Thanks for letting me post to this blog, I remember listening to you on 1250/WTAE and the FM 97 days in Pittsburgh.
Sincerely
Gary Fisher
2/6/12 Chuck: Just found out about your accident. Yesh! Please get well. You are the only great one left in radio ! GD (Brian Matthews)
ReplyDeleteI just learned about your accident. I'm so sorry. I'd like to come and visit and want to know if you like any particular authors. Can you have sweets? Just trying to decide what you might like. Have you been moved? Your daughter didn't say if you have been transferred. Hope to find out by Thursday. Hope to see you soon.

Chuck is one of my Heroes!! He introduced me to Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, British Invaders, the Spoonful, Turtles, Mamas & Papas, Diamond, Blues Magoos, McCoys, and on and on and on.... He had the best slot on the best station on the dial in the Pgh. area! And the best commentary on the artists. Thanks, Chuck! You paved my way! Now I am a physical therapist myself and I understand the challenge you face every day.... hang tough, please! I thik your daughter needs you to be around a liitle while longer..... bob
